Rebuild SNUBA SXM Progress

Hi there all SNUBA SXM supporters. It has been a very long time since I updated. Since we are in the process of numerous fiberglass repairs and sanding and this just doesn’t look like something is being done, I decided to wait till it is actually apparent that we are making vast progress.

The damage to the hull of the boat was enormous. There were some very big fiberglass repairs to be done above the waterline, which I, until a few days ago, took upon myself to get done.  I have never learned this much in this short amount of time. Types of fiberglass.. What it is used for?… epoxy resin or polyester resin? Why Acetone is important, Polyester gets REALLY hot when you overdo on hardener. It also gets pretty hot when you do it right, but it is already applied then so no burning fingers. Paint? Gelcoat? What grid sandpaper for what? How many sanders does the job take? Why preheat a repair area? Gelcoat does not like water. Underwater-Putty is a thing…. very useful. Why thicker starter cable is needed. Sanding the boat takes over two days. Sanding the boat needs to be done several times. (I should be having a fun cigarette — but I do not smoke) When done sanding…. just start over and sand some more. Wiring that was under water or is wrongly color-coded, needs to be taken out. What the H is 3M5200? or MekP? Aluminium is a bitch to grind, needs really to be sandblasted– need a sandblaster. Boat yards ask a TON of money for work I can do myself

Eva and Bert are great helps. A great team is becoming greater. By this weekend we are hoping to put on the first and second layer of primer and then on Monday we should be doing top coating…. Below are a few pictures. You can easily recognize which is before and after.

Nothing would have been established without the help of our supporters, who donated a little or lot for us to get the things we need to make it thru this enormous dip. We are now on our way out of the hole, the demolishing of stuff has stopped and we are building….  we will not be able to start a platform yet as of course at the end of the money, there is still boat stuff to be fixed.

Do you want to help? We accept PayPal donations! For donations of 50$ or more, you will get a unique shirt… $75 or more will get your name somewhere on our new platform/boat (plus the shirt) and $100 and more, you also get a voucher for SNUBA for two when you are next on island. (and the shirt and the name on the platform)
You can donate right here (even if you have no PayPal account. PayPal will take you to a page where you have options)

We will keep you posted each week with our progress.
Thank you much!!!
